The Bishop Lloyd Lancers earned a gold medal at 2A Junior Basketball Playdowns on the February 9-10 weekend at College Park School in Lloydminster.

Bishop Lloyd avenged a heartbreaking loss to Jonas Samson in the semi-finals last year to rise to the top. The Lancers were led by David Dimaano and Jhulie Velasco who helped carry the team to a 57-52 victory over the Holy Rosary Raiders.
The Lancers were up by 10 points at halftime and were able to sustain the lead through the 2nd half. After three close losses in league play and tournament play to the Raiders by nine, one and seven points, the Lancers were able to win the big game in the district final.

In the semi-finals, Bishop Lloyd edged a gritty Jonas Samson Stingers squad 65-55 while the Raiders defeated the E.S. Laird Sabres 71-48. In the quarter-final games, the Sabres knocked off the Eagleview Eagles 52-34 while the Stingers got by the College Park Cobras 56-30. The Cobras defeated the Eagles 43-42 in the consolation final.

Congratulations to the coaches and players of the six teams on a great season and special thanks to Trent Marsh from Meadow Lake and Jason/Rene Stein from Turtleford for coming down to Lloydminster to help officiate the tournament.
