The E.S. Laird Sabres Boys basketball teams captured the North West District Basketball title on the weekend in Lloydminster.

The boys’ championship was held at E.S. Laird School in Lloydminster and started on Friday night with the #3 seed Bishop Lloyd defeating #6 College Park 71-25.

On Saturday, the semi-finals kicked off with the #1 seed E.S. Laird defeating #4 Holy Rosary 47-33 while the second semi-final proved to be an outstanding display of basketball as #2 Jonas Samson took down Bishop Lloyd 68-63 in overtime. The game was controlled by Jonas Samson at the start as they held a ten point lead at the half. Bishop Lloyd kept chipping away in the second half and the game ended in regulation at 57-57. Jonas Samson would prevail in the overtime, outscoring Bishop Lloyd 11-6.

The final between E.S Laird and Jonas Samson was controlled by E.S. Laird and they cruised to a 28-14 lead at halftime before prevailing 54-30 in the final. Congratulations to Patrick Sharkey and his Sabres squad and to Chris Jones and his Stingers squad.
