The Bishop Lloyd Lancer Girls basketball team captured North West District title on the weekend in Lloydminster.

The girls’ championship was held at College Park School in Lloydminster and started on Friday night with #4 seed E.S. Laird defeating #5 seed College Park 40-15 and #3 seed Holy Rosary defeating #6 seed Eagleview 66-7.

Semi-final Saturday started with E.S. Laird defeating the #1 seed Jonas Samson 44-36 in a barn burner of a game to kick off things on the Saturday. This game was followed by #2 seed Bishop Lloyd defeating Holy Rosary 40-23. That set up the all-Lloydminster final with Bishop Lloyd taking on E.S. Laird.

Both teams played tight defense and made their baskets on the offensive end in a back and forth affair. The teams were tied at halftime and E.S. Laird held a one point lead going into the fourth quarter. The Lancers would pull out the victory thanks to a last second basket combined with some clutch free throw shooting at the end.

Congratulations to Brent Golden and his Lancers girls team and to McKenzie King and Theresa Stene and their Sabres squad.

The NWHSAA thanks all the volunteers who worked so hard to make this event a tremendous success.
